Two teenagers, Maudie and Jamie, are playing outside the hick village of Hogtown when
the sky goes dark. A huge black, amorphous mass passes overhead and
moments later they hear an ear-splitting "Woosh! PLOP!"-- like the sound of a ton of jelly being dropped
from an office tower and then hitting the pavement.
When the teens investigate, they discover a building that
has been obliterated by an odious, congealed blob of goo. They realise that it was
the office of "The Post Toastie," their local newspaper, as well as the Telegraph office,
but there is no trace of the people who worked there.
They run back to town to warn everyone about the congealed blob or CONBLOB that has landed in their
village. The townsfolk scoff about the danger of the gelatinous visitor and they run to the
site of the space globule. Following the trail of slime, they find the phlegmatic alien and decide to probe
its intentions.
But every time someone gets near the CONBLOB, it hostilely merges them into its corpulent
mass of primordial ooze. The CONBLOB bloats noticeably in size when it takes over an unsuspecting target.
Then the CONBLOB makes an indecipherable, pompous gurgling noise, and regurgitates the demanned victim --
who has been stripped of their job and their dignity.
Is the CONBLOB insatiable? unstoppable? Will the citizens heed Maudie and Jamie's warnings
(and will their paper route get downsized)?
Tune into your local newspaper for the terrifying conclusion to this story.
